Thomas Joe Tudor

Thomas Joe Tudor, 82, of Layton, Utah, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, at Chancellor Gardens in Clearfield, Utah.

Tom was born on September 3, 1942, to Ethel and Theron Tudor in West Lafayette, Indiana. He attended Purdue University before entering the U.S. Army, where he served during the Vietnam conflict. Stationed in Germany as a Military Police officer, Tom built a foundation of discipline and service that shaped the rest of his life.

While stationed at Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City, Tom met the love of his life, Myrna, out dancing. The two quickly fell in love and were married in January of 1967 in Logan, Utah. Later, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they shared nearly six decades of love, devotion, and partnership until her passing early this year. On August 17, Tom was reunited with Myrna, the companion he cherished throughout his life.

Following his military service, Tom attended the Police Academy in West Lafayette, Indiana, before moving to Layton, Utah, in 1970. Soon after relocating, he continued his education and graduated from Weber State University, an achievement he was very proud of. He then began his dedicated career as a Layton City police officer. He also served in the Air Force Reserves at Hill Air Force Base.

During his career, Tom contributed greatly to the Layton community — coaching football, serving with the Layton Jaycees, and working as a school resource officer at Layton High School, where he made a lasting impact. He finished his police career as a detective, remembered for his integrity, compassion, and dedication to public service.

After retiring from the police force, Tom continued working as a security specialist until fully retiring at the age of 75.

Beyond his professional service, Tom was deeply devoted to Layton City, the place he proudly called home for 55 years. He could often be found attending community concerts, parades, city council meetings, and other local events. In recognition of his commitment and love for Layton City, he was honored with the title of “Hometown Hero” — an award that meant a great deal to him.

To his family, Grandpa Tom was larger than life — silly, loud, extremely patriotic, and truly their hero. His booming personality filled every room, and he was known for joyfully singing Jingle Bells at every occasion, no matter the season. His legacy will live on through the laughter, pride, and love he shared with all who knew him.

Tom is survived by his children, Rita (George), Lara (Donald), and Mindy (Chet); his grandchildren, Melanie, Tawnee, Michael, Marina, Codie, Carson, and Callie; eleven great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Jim and Bob Tudor. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrna, and is now joyfully reunited with her.

The family wants to express gratitude for the kindness and care given to Tom while at Chancellor Gardens. Especially to the staff and caretakers who made him feel important and included in his final community.

Funeral Services will be held Monday August 25, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Family and Friends are welcome and encouraged to visit Sunday August 24, 2025 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
