Thomas Edison Wainwright, Sr.

Thomas Edison Wainwright, 89, of Albemarle, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024 at home in Albemarle.

Thomas was born August 13, 1934 in Georgia to the late Henry Jack Wainwright and the late Vera Sweat Wainwright. 
He was also preceded in death by wife, Shirley Wainwright; and also 11 brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 2pm April 25, 2024 at Baker McCullough Chapel, located at 7415 Hodgson Memorial Dr, Savannah, GA 31406,  officiated by Pastor David Cochran.  Burial will then follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 315 Greenwich Road, Savannah.

Thomas was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He dedicated his life to working with and supporting the Boy Scouts of America, professionally and in leadership.  Tom was a life-long treasure hunter and sharing with others his many adventures and finds with his metal detector.  Tom loved the Lord and served Him faithfully.  He was a member of Bethany United Church and had a loving church family who will miss him deeply.

Survivors include daughter, Angela (Doug) Dick of Albemarle, NC, daughter, Sherry (Greg) Russell of Albemarle, NC; son, Thomas Edison (Sonja) Wainwright, Jr. of North Wilkesboro, NC; son, Barry Jay (Tracey) Wainwright, Sr. of Concord, NC; son, Hugh (Debbie) Wainwright of Albemarle, NC; sister, Marjory (Robert) Lindsey of Tybee Island, GA; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.
