Thomas Mervyn Walsh Sr, pass away at Doctor's Medical Center , Modesto, CA on September 26, 2025 at the age of 83.
He was born to Ann & Milton Thomas Walsh, Sr. on April 2, 1942, in San Francisco, California at St. Mary's Hospital and is survived by his wife Carol of 61 years; his sons Thomas Mervyn Walsh, II [Dena]; Kevin Nathaniel Walsh [Jennifer]; his grandchildren, Cameron Thomas Walsh and Olivia Rose Walsh. His brothers Jerome Dennis Walsh [Nancy]; & Rev. Milton Thomas Walsh, STD. His brothers-in-law, John Forrest Syme, III [Lynette] & Walter Alexander Syme. His nieces Susan Johnston [Bob], Dr. Ashley Syme, Lauren Syme Helms [Jordan], Kelly Banks [Nate], Kimberly Moran [Kiernan], nephew Daniel Walsh, & many great nieces & nephews. Cousins and friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Ann & Milton Thomas Walsh, Sr., in-laws John Forrest Syme, II & Phyllis Marie Syme, and his brother & sister-in-law, Jim & Cecile Walsh.
He and Carol married on May 23, 1964, and raised their family in South San Francisco, CA. They have been happily retired in Forest Meadows, Murphys, CA since December, 2000. They lived a full life together enjoying many family members & friends. Tom always had a smile on his face and a positive view on life. He enjoyed playing golf, volunteering his time and loved the game of baseball, especially his San Francisco Giants.
He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in San Francisco, CA, then onto City College, SF studying to be an SFPD detective. After 2 years, he met the love of his life, Carol, and decided to change a future career and become a financial typesetter. During this career, he was awarded 'Man of the Year' in the early 1990's in New York for 'Excellence, Attitude & Service' as he was able to pivot from hot metal typesetting to computer typesetting with ease [which was not that easy to do]. He and his wife Carol celebrated this honor with the Company Officers & Board Members for a week in New York City. He retired from RR Donnelly [formerly Bowne of NY].
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church & Murphys Mission Ministry in Murphys, CA; YMI Council #32 in South San Francisco, CA; Native Sons of the Golden West, Chispa Parlor in Murphys, CA; Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge #1123 in Arnold CA; & Forest Meadows Mens Golf Club in Murphys, CA.
A Mass & Celebration of Life will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Murphys on Monday, October 13th at 11:00 am.
Reception to follow at the Church Hall.
