Thomas Alfred Watts, Sr., 96, of Spring City, PA; formerly of Souderton, PA went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Southeastern Pennsylvania Veterans Center.
He was the loving husband of the late Evelyn T. (Walizer) Watts for 61 years. Thomas was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late William Henry Watts, Sr. and the late Alice (Dickson) Watts.
He attended Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, PA.
From 1944-1946, Thomas served his first year of service in Recife, Brazil and his second year on the USS Chukawan for the United States Navy during WWII. He then worked for Tastykake in Philadelphia, PA. Thomas then worked as a machine mechanic for the former Arbycraft Company in Philadelphia, PA. For 42 years, Thomas was employed as a designer for the former Leeds & Northrup in North Wales, PA until retiring in 1988. After retiring, he worked part-time running prints for Vacuum Furnace Systems in Souderton, PA.
Thomas was an active lifetime volunteer fire fighter for the Weldon Fire Company in Glenside, PA. He was a cub scout master for Troop 4 in Germantown, PA. Thomas was a member of Travelers Protective Association in Germantown, PA. He was a lifetime member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Valley Forge Region where he served on multiple board positions and was the club's master map maker. Thomas was a member of Lansdale Presbyterian Church.
He loved antique cars including his 1950 Dodge Coronet and his 1967 Buick Skylark. Thomas enjoyed woodworking, traveling both nationally and internationally, and taking trips/runs with the car club. Thomas also enjoyed listening to country music. He and his wife belonged to a Boomba band named 'Up In Years Boombadeers' in which they wore authentic German outfits and played at nursing homes, hospitals and local events.
Thomas was a hardworking, outgoing, meticulous, friendly, sociable man who was a joke teller and was well-liked by all.
He is survived by his four children, Lois Evelyn Rosenberger & husband, Drew of Haycock Twp., PA, Thomas Alfred Watts, Jr. & wife, Susan of Hatfield, PA, Carol Jean Ryan & husband, Richard of Lansdale, PA, Ronald James Watts & wife, Janice of Souderton, PA; his six grandchildren – Angela, Robert, Amanda, Heather, Holly, & Daniel; his nine great-grandchildren – Alexandra, Brooklin, Taylor, Thomas, Nicholas, Anthony, Joseph, Lucas, & Henry; and his two sisters, Lorraine Intintolo of Lansdale, PA & Betty Lou Jaworski of Norristown, PA; and his sister-in-law, Elsie Watts of Limerick, PA.
In addition to his parents and wife, Thomas was preceded in death by his grandson, Austin Pavel Watts; his brother, William Henry Watts, Jr; and his brothers-in-law, Jonathan Intintolo & Anthony Jaworski.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad Street, Souderton, PA 18964 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.
Burial will take place at George Washington Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Southeastern Veteran Center, 1 Veterans Drive, Spring City, PA 19475.
