Thomas E. Young

Thomas E. Young, 65, of Princeton, IN passed away October 11, 2022 at his home. He was born September 28, 1957 in Princeton, IN to the late Paul and Dorothy Young. Thomas attended and graduated from Princeton Community High School in 1977. He was known as an outstanding drummer. Thomas was the first African American to receive the John Philip Sousa award for the band at PCHS. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang on the radio with the church. Thomas loved animals and enjoyed working, mowing his lawn, and helping others. He faithfully worked at Indiana Department of Transportation for 30+ years.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy Young; sister Pricilla Green; maternal grandparents Ella Mae and Charles Green; Fraternal grandparents Lloyd and Lucille Smith.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas "Ralph" Eugene (Joy) Young, Von Jackson, and Joshua "JJ" (Brooke) Johnson; brothers, Timothy (Valerie) Young, Wesley Young, and Paul (Dani) Green; sisters, Mary (Connor) Agnew, Paula (James) Wilkerson, Deslin Young, Ella Johnson, and Christa Young; Foster sister, Dionne Phillips; special companion of 25 years, Cindy Cullivan, Children he raised as his own, Dacia, Brandon, Chris, Kyla, Alethea, Julie, and Aaron; special granddaughter, Destiny Padgett; 15 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
The funeral service will be held graveside at 2:30 pm Friday, October 14, 2022 at Sand Hill Cemetery in Princeton, with Elder James Wilkerson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow the service. Visitation will be from 12 pm until 2 pm Friday at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton.
