Thomascine Lewis Jackson Thomascine Lewis Jackson, of Charlottesville, Virginia departed this life August 7, 2013. Thomascine was born October 20, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Thomas H. Lewis and Leola Kennedy Lewis and granddaughter of the late Rev. I.A. J. Kennedy and Eliza Jefferson Kennedy. Two brothers, Howard K. Lewis and Ronald A. Lewis; and a sister, Brenda Lewis Ashord preceded her in death. Thomascine was christened by the late Rev. Walnut Jones at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville, Virginia. She joined Zion Union Baptist Church at an early age and rejoined Zion Union Baptist Church after retiring and returning to Charlottesville. She was led by faith and believed that God was truly in control. At Zion Union Baptist Church she was a member of the Usher Board, the original Hospitality Ministry and the Visitation Ministry. She was a member of The Mount Zion First African Baptist Church Senior Ministry. She was also a member of the Charlottesville Divas Red Hat Society. Thomascine attended Miss Lyles Kindergarten, Jefferson Elementary School and graduated from Jackson P. Burley High School in 1956. She attended Virginia State College/University, Petersburg, Virginia. and was a graduate of Prince George's County Maryland Community College. Thomascine leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband of 56 years, Carl B. Jackson; three children, Carla Gatling and her husband, Vincent, of Columbia, South Carolina, Darrell Jackson and his wife, Tissy, of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Ramona Jackson of Charlottesville, Virginia.; three grandchildren, Vincent A. Gatling III of Atlanta, Georgia, Darrell Jackson and Steven Jackson of Charlottesville, Virginia. She is survived by one sister, Vernetta Jones and her husband, Nelson, of Charlottesville, Virginia; and sisters-in-law, Dorothea Lewis of Charlottesville, Virginia. and Bertha Lewis of Washington, D.C. In addition she leaves a brother-in-law, Franklin Jackson and his wife, Betty, of Mitchelleville, Maryland; sisters-in-law, Barbara Jackson of Gainesville, Georgia, Shelia Jackson of Charlottesville, Virginia and Rita Jackson of District Hts. Maryland; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Thomascine's path led her in several directions. She worked for the Hecht Co. as a Sales Associate; for the U. S. Postal Service as a Postal Clerk; for Prince George's County Board of Education as a School Nurse and finally in private industry in the field of Accounting. Thomascine's passions were volunteering to help others, gardening, interior decorating and traveling with her best friend and husband, Carl B. Jackson. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Zion Union Baptist Church Youth Department, c/o Eric Johnson. Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Zion Union Baptist Church with the Reverend Lloyd Cosby officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens. The Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the services. J. F. Bell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.jfbellfuneralhome.com
