Thor Karl Berntson, 80, passed away on August 28, 2025, in
Snellville, Georgia.
Born on June 21, 1945, in New York, New York, Thor lived a life marked by service, reinvention, and a deep commitment to those around him. Thor began his journey of service with the United States Air Force, where he served honorably from1967 to 1973. His six years included four stateside and two stationed in Japan-an experience that shaped his discipline and broadened his worldview. After completing his military service, Thor explored various opportunities before finding his professional home at Procter & Gamble in Albany, Georgia. There, he dedicated 27 years (1978–2005) to the Paper Products division, earning respect for his exemplary work ethic and leadership. Never one to remain idle or stagnant, Thor embraced what he fondly called "reinventing himself." Following his retirement from Procter & Gamble, he turned to education, sharing his knowledge and passion for learning as an instructor at Albany Technical College from 2005 to 2009. His next chapter saw him founding TBeck Enterprises LLC in 2010. As an OSHA Outreach Instructor and independent safety auditor, Thor provided critical workplace safety training across the southeastern United States until 2019.
In true Thor fashion, when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many lives in 2020, he pivoted once again-this time to become a student himself to earn a Commercial Driver's License. He then served as a school bus driver for Gwinnett County Schools for one year (2020–2021), ensuring students travel safely during uncertain times. But perhaps the role that brought him the most joy came in his final professional chapter as the Transportation Specialist at Laurel Groves Retirement Community from 2021 until his passing in 2025.Morethan just a driver, Thor took time to connect with each resident personally recognizing their individuality and offering kindness that left lasting impressions. Thor's life was not only defined by work but also by the things he loved. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Falcons and found peace in camping trips and classic car shows. Most of all, he cherished time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Crider Berntson; daughter, Tori Berntson Burns and her husband Ryan Burns; son, Michael M. Berntson; and grandsons, Gabriel A. Berntson, Dylan C. Gittner, and Logan A. Berntson. Thor was preceded in death by his father, Albert Auther Berntson Sr., brother, Albert Auther Berntson Jr. ,and daughter, April Lynn Berntson. A strong and loving man who consistently went above and beyond for others, Thor Karl Berntson leaves behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him
