Thurman James Boyd passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, in Flower Mound, Texas, at the age of 80.
Born on December 31, 1944, in rural Parker, Oklahoma near Coalgate. James was the son of the late Thurman Sr. and Leta Boyd. He graduated from Coalgate High School in 1962 and went on to dedicate his career to public service as a firefighter in Oklahoma City. He retired with distinction as a Major at Station 33 in 1996 after serving more than 26 years with the department. James was an accomplished carpenter and always loved the chance to work with his grandchildren building things down in his shop.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis Boyd; his son, Gregg Boyd; and his siblings Betty Adams and Virgie Seifert. He is survived by his son Scott Boyd and wife Dena; four grandsons, Braden and wife Alissa, Preston, Colton and Jamie, one granddaughter, Stephanie, one brother, Ronnie Boyd along with numerous great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
James had a deep love for fishing, carpentry, and watching sports - especially cheering on OU and the Dallas Cowboys. He always looked forward to the occasional trips to casinos and to the lake where he enjoyed the fried catfish. He was an unwavering supporter of his children and grandchildren, always trying to make every game or a moment to show his pride. Most of all, he treasured his time spent with his wife Phyllis and family.
Known for his strength, resilience, and quiet humility, James faced ongoing health challenges since 1996 without complaint, always placing others before himself - even in his final days. He was, and will always be, our superhero... the strongest man we ever knew.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and devotion to family that will never be forgotten.
Services will be held at McNeil's Funeral Service in Mustang OK on Saturday June 7, @ 10:00am

We will miss James so much. We always loved seeing him anytime we could, and we loved to visit! New stories or those retold will always hold a special place in our heart! James always had a smile when we got to see him and his love of his family was definitely known! I remember fun times had together for family holidays, or special gatherings and celebrations. We have been blessed by your love and will truly miss you. You have been a wonderful Dad, Papa, and friend to all who have known you! Your strength, love, and kindness will always be remembered!
