Thurmond Siceloff Obituary

Published by Winston-Salem Journal from Mar. 31 to Apr. 1, 2010.
SICELOFF WINSTON-SALEM - Thurmond Emanuel Siceloff, 83, of Winston-Salem, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Siceloff was born on December 14, 1926, to Esta Spaugh and M. Roscoe Siceloff. In additions to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Katherine S. Morse, and brothers, M. Roscoe Siceloff, Jr. and Joseph B. Siceloff. Thurmond was a lifelong and devoted member of Home Moravian Church, where he taught Sunday School, worked on the Putz Committee (for which he built the models for the parsonage and the fourth house). He also designed the handicap entrance into the Church and two parking lots. In 1989, Mr. Siceloff retired from The Bahnson Company after a 46-year career. Beginning as a young man, Thurmond loved airplanes, music, art, and history. He was a great amateur photographer and sculptor and won many prizes for his work in both fields. He was a true patriot and loved his country. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Speas Siceloff, one daughter and son-in-law, Lynn S. and Samuel H. Joyner of Wake Forest, NC and one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. T. Eric and Martha H. ("Sam") Siceloff of Clemmons, NC. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Rachel Lynn Joyner and Samuel Lane Joyner of Wake Forest, NC, and Alexandra Reece Siceloff and William Benjamin Siceloff of Clemmons, NC. A service conducted by the Reverend Carl Southerland, will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at the Pavilion at Forsyth Memorial Park. Family visitation will be held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff of Northside Dialysis for their kind and loving treatment and to Dr. Douglas Stewart who took such great care of him. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the Book of Remembrance at Home Moravian Church, 529 South Church St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

I went to work at The Bahnson Company in the mid-fifties. Thurmond had been there for a few years and had established himself as undoubtedly the best draftsman in the company. When ever there was a special, important project Thurmond was the one who did it. Being very inexperienced myself, Thurmond was of tremendous help to me. And not just me, he was always willing to assist others in any way he could. Thurmond and I established a close friendship that endured through the years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My sincere condolences to the Siceloff family.
