Thyrene L. Martin

Thyrene Lorraine Martin, age 87, of Midwest City Oklahoma, passed peacefully from this earth on August 27, 2025. She was born in Bottineau, North Dakota.

Thyrene never met a stranger. She was kind, generous, and always willing to give the shirt off of her back, or the last penny in her pocket to anyone in need. She was married to the love of her life, George Henry Martin, for nearly 40 years, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.

She spent most of her childhood in the beautiful black hills of Rapid City, South Dakota, before moving to Oklahoma during her teen years. She attended Pine Cono Middle School in Rapid City, South Dakota, Del City high school a short time, then graduated from Crooked Oak High School in 1956. Thyrene worked a variety of jobs, but found her calling as a tool re-worker at Tinker Air Force Base, where she proudly served for 20 years before retiring.

Thyrene loved traveling with her husband, taking weekend trips with the kids, gardening, and hosting family gatherings filled with swimming, cooking out, and making memories. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her family takes comfort, knowing she is free from pain and reunited with her loved ones, joyfully dancing on the streets of heaven.

Thyrene is preceded in death by her husband, George Henry Martin; her mother, Del Hymel, and stepfather Jim Hymel; her father, Arthur C. Pederson of Minneapolis, MN; her brothers, Arthur "Tink" Pederson, Lowell "Pete" Pederson, Harry Hymel, and sister, Charlotte Grisham.

She is survived by her children, Gene Wingfield and wife Marla, Cindy Stephens and her husband Steve, and Teresa Favors and her husband Rick; 8 grandchildren, Cory Wingfield and his wife Skyler, Jarrett Wingfield, Stevi Stephens and her husband John, Shelby Stephens and his wife Kayleigh, Shawn Stephens, Star Velasco, Ashley Willeford and her husband John, Kayli White and her husband Dalton, Caden Favors, Addison Favors, and 14 great-grandchildren; her siblings Jimmie Hymel, Bill Pederson, Bob Pederson, and their families.

Thyrene's love, laughter, and generosity will live on through the many lives she touched.

Services will be rendered by Barnes-Friederich & Pope Funeral Home, 1820 S Douglas Blvd, Midwest City, OK 73130. Visitation will be from 12:00pm – 8:00pm, Tuesday, September 2, 2025. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Her final place of rest will be Arlington Memory Gardens, in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
