Tim Gilmore, age 75, passed away August 10, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital after sudden illness. Tim was born February 16, 1948 to Ken and Betty Jane (Galbreath) Gilmore. Tim grew up in
Uhrichsville, Ohio. He then moved to the Mansfield area in High School. Tim was a graduate of Akron University with a BA in Education. Tim was a teacher and coach teaching at Crestline and Wadsworth before settling in Willard for the duration of his 35-year career.
Tim is survived by his wife Sandy (Aukerman) Gilmore of 47 years, daughter Sara Cofer (Eric Fiest), son Adam (Dareth) Gilmore, twin brother Greg (Paula) Gilmore, brother-in-law Don (Betty) Aukerman, grandchildren Madison, Gabe, Cael, Brielle, Ciaran, and Georgia; nieces and nephews, Mandy (Brandon) Singer, Chad (Megan) Gilmore and Hannah (Jon) Souza; great nieces and great nephews.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ken, infant sister Linda.
Tim was a total family person, showering time and attention on his children and grandchildren. Tim coached and supported his own children in wrestling, softball, baseball, and volleyball. Following them through their college career.
Tim had so much love for his grandchildren. Tim and his camera followed them to the ends of the earth and back for of course wrestling but also softball, soccer, baseball, football, swimming, cross country, golf, track, and gymnastics. Tim loved watching them compete always encouraging. Coaching tips also found their way into the conversation.
At the end of each year Tim would then create a Shutterfly book for each child. Lots of pictures, lots of bragging, and lots of statistics about each child. This book was their favorite Christmas gift each year.
Tim loved wrestling. His career started when he was a freshman at Mansfield Madison High School for coach Tom Ellis and continued at Akron University. After competing, he spent the rest of his life dedicated to the sport, taking turns going back and forth from coaching and officiating.
As a coach, Tim coached at many levels. A majority of his time was spent coaching high school, but he always willing to help at the youth and middle school levels. He was an intense coach who taught his athletes to get the most from themselves and what it meant to be "student of the sport".
In addition to coaching, Tim spent 30 years as an official where he was selected to officiate at 13 Ohio High School State Tournaments. He was inducted into the Ohio Wrestling Officials Association Hall of Fame in 1998 with his twin brother, Greg. Upon retiring from officiating in 2015, Tim continued to give back to the sport by evaluating officials. He spent countless hours observing and writing reports for officials at regular and post season tournaments in order to help the next wave become great.
Tim loved the wrestling community and the friendships that he made along the way.
