Hancock
Timothy E. Kilpela, 67, a resident of Hancock unexpectedly passed away Friday, May 26, 2023, at his home from an apparent heart attack.
He was born on February 1, 1956, a son of Howard and Lillian (Poyhonen) Kilpela. Tim was raised in Hancock and was a graduate of Hancock High School.
Mr. Kilpela has worked for various heating and cooling companies in the area and retired from the Hancock Bike Shop where he had worked as a small engine mechanic.
Mr. Kilpela was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. He was a member of the Isle Royal Boater’s Association. He enjoyed time on the water and trips to the island.
Preceding him in death were his son Eric Kilpela, grandson Buckley Zarda, His brother Mark and his father Howard.

His children: Jenny (Boone) Mattfolk, John Kilpela, Julie Kilpela, Ron (Becky) Kilpela, Sally (Richard) Zarda, Matthew (Jolena) Kilpela, Jill (Jeremiah) Butson, Karrie (Matt) Twitchell, James Kilpela, Kevin Kilpela, Thomas Kilpela, Kurt Kilpela, Seth Kilpela and Martha Kilpela; 22 grandchildren; his mother: Lillian Kilpela; his siblings: Ozzy (Annette) Kilpela, Ginny (Roger) Pietila, Laura (Hub) Leukuma, Danny (Shannon) Kilpela, David Kilpela, & Margaret (Darwin) Heinonen, & his sister-in-law: Christine Kilpela; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service for Tim will be held 6:00 pm Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Mark Halonen to officiate. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton from 3:00 pm until time of services.
