"Lets Go Red Wings!!! - Tim Michalak"
Timothy Elliott Michalak passed away peacefully at his home in Belleville, MI, on Saturday, July 5th, 2025, at the young age of 38. He is lovingly survived by his partner, John Desselles; his parents, David and Judy Michalak; his brother, Jeff Michalak; sister-in-law, Heather (Miles) Michalak; and his cherished nieces, Avery and Raegan Michalak.
Tim grew up and attended school on Grosse Ile. He began his studies at Western Michigan University with the goal of becoming a pilot, but later discovered his passion for air traffic control. He graduated with a degree in Aviation and went on to develop his skills as an Air Traffic Controller in Grand Rapids. Tim later transferred to the Detroit Metro area, seeking greater opportunities and a chance to be closer to his family, friends and to meet new people, like his partner, Johnny.
Tim created a picture-perfect life along the shores of Belleville Lake. His love-both quiet and radiant-shaped the world around him in ways that left a lasting mark on everyone he touched.
Returning Johnny to their hometown of Belleville was one of Tim's greatest joys. Together, they embraced the lakefront life they loved: boating, jet skiing, and strengthening their deep-rooted bond with the community. Their home became a sanctuary-a place of peace, joy, and unwavering love. It was also the heartbeat of the family, the "center ice" of every holiday and cherished gathering.
Tim had a rare gift for expressing affection openly and generously. His love for the people in his life was profound, and his devotion knew no bounds. Alongside the humans he cared for, his heart also belonged to three loyal companions-Griff, Finn, and Max-who were never far from his side.
Tim's spirit lives on in the laughter that echoes across Belleville Lake, the warmth of the home he so carefully built, and the memories that will forever bind us to him.
Tim will be remembered for his selflessness, warmth, and unwavering generosity. He always put others before himself and was the first to step up when someone needed help. He was the kind of person who would quietly help someone in need, never expecting recognition-often in ways that even close family wouldn't discover until much later. Open, friendly, and outgoing, Tim had a natural ability to make people feel at ease-often with a laugh, smile, a great hug, or by insisting on getting the next round. Tim never shied away from making a fool of himself if it meant bringing laughter and joy to others.
Tim was unselfish, compassionate, and deeply loving. He cherished his family and friends and was the best teammate anyone could ask for. He stood firmly by his beliefs and convictions, even when they weren't popular, and lived his life with faith, even if he didn't always attend church.
In the days leading up to his unexpected passing, Tim spent meaningful time with many friends, sharing laughter, stories, and connection. He now has the suit he'd been hoping for-one he planned to wear to upcoming interviews, full of optimism for the future.
Tim lived life with passion, curiosity, and a deep love for adventure. He was an avid hockey player, proudly skating on multiple teams throughout the years. One of his greatest joys was sharing the ice with both his dad and brother. A devoted fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins, Tim had a deep affection for the "Winged Wheel."
His love of aviation ran just as deep-Tim was fascinated by planes and flying, and he pursued that passion both academically and professionally. He had a deep love for the American flag
Tim also cherished the outdoors. He was a dedicated duck hunter, camper, and especially loved trips to Silver Lake with his partner Johnny. As a child, he enjoyed family vacations with his father, mother and brother (and sometimes others), such as a cross country road trip, cruise or many other trips small and large. His creativity knew no bounds-as a kid, he invented imaginative games from the most unexpected things, bringing joy to his brother, cousins, and friends. He never failed to brighten Mom's day with an extra-special hug or a thoughtful handmade gift. Whenever he got hurt, Tim would request 'Dr. Dad'-his trusted source of care and healing as a child.
Whether traveling in style or roughing it in the wilderness, Tim embraced every journey. He loved Michigan-its seasons, its lakes, its people-and he loved making new friends just as much as reconnecting with old ones - even stationed around the country. His warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know him.
Visitation for Tim will be held on Wednesday, July 9th, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Czopek Funeral Home, 2157 Oak Street,
