Tobby Eugene Schield, 48, of Sublette, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta, Kansas, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 27, 1977, in Liberal, Kansas, to Leslie Ann Schield. Tobby was raised by his grandparents, Ed and Shirley Schield, in Plains, Kansas, and graduated from Southwestern Heights High School in 1995. He married Lysa Rose Crum on August 1, 1998 in Liberal, Kansas.
An avid outdoorsman, Tobby found peace and joy in nature. He loved hunting deer and elk, fishing, trail riding, and camping in Colorado. Some of his happiest moments were weekends at Coldwater, tubing and floating on the lake, and grilling with friends. Tobby was also a prankster who loved to make people laugh and could brighten any day with his humor.
Tobby loved building and racing hobby stock cars in Beaver, Liberal, Hugoton, and Dodge City, proudly behind the wheel of car #72. He took pride in thinking creatively and finding unique solutions in mechanics. He worked as a diesel mechanic in Liberal for several trucking companies before starting his own trucking business and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of trucks with the younger generation.
He taught his girls to "get 'er done" and to work hard for what they wanted. Tobby was their biggest supporter and never missed a chance to cheer them on. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife Lysa (Crum) Schield of Sublette, KS; daughters, Jessica Schield and her fiancé, Ethan Brungardt, of Hays, KS, and Jaylee Schield of Sublette, KS; and his brothers, James Person and Anthony Person, both of Hitchcock, OK. Also very special to Tobby were his in-laws, Michael and Rose Crum of Sublette, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Shirley Schield, and his mother, Leslie Hicks.
There is no viewing as cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Commercial Building on the Haskell County Fairgrounds, with Pastor Aaron Koehn officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made out to Pheasant Heaven, in care of Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, P.O. Box 1200, Sublette, KS 67877. Condolences may be left online at WeeksFamilyFuneralHome.com.
