Toby Bates, age 67, a man known for his unwavering love for family, friends, and life's simple joys, passed away on June 21, 2025, at Northside Hospital Cherokee. Born on August 10, 1957, in Cleveland, Ohio, Toby's infectious laughter and amiable spirit brightened the lives of all who knew him.
For more than three decades, Toby dedicated himself to Bates Building Supply, the family business. Above all, Toby's life was a testament to love. He cherished every moment spent with his family and friends. Toby's bond with his beloved dog, Pepper, was a sight to behold. His passion for the Atlanta Falcons was more than just a pastime; it was a display of unshakeable loyalty and spirited camaraderie.
Toby also held a special place in his heart for music. His rich laughter would fill the room, Toby's wit and charm enlivened many gatherings. He will be forever remembered as a loving, friendly soul – a man who never hesitated to extend a helping hand or share a moment of joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Fran Bates.
Toby is survived by his wife of 11 years, Cheryl Bates; children, Ashley Mooney (Jessica), Jessica Weber and Justin Mooney; grandchildren, Abby Lee, Jake Lee, Aaron Lee, Willow Mooney, Asher Mooney, Silas Weber, Lulu Weber, Odin Mooney and Tyr Mooney; brother, Kim Bates (Karen Beedle); nephews, Shannon Bates and Seth Bates (Myra); great nieces and great nephew, Kendra, Thomas and Savannah; as well as cousins and friends that were like family.
