Toby Lavon Simmons, 67 of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at AdventHealth-Redmond with complications from a stroke.
He was born in Gordon County, Georgia, on July 19, 1958, the son of the late Clyde Alvin Simmons and the late Barbara Payne Purvis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marsha Wilson in 2021. Toby was also preceded in death by his bonus mom, Faye Simmons.
Toby looked forward to spending time with his daughter, grandson, and siblings, and really enjoyed his visits to Ohio, getting to see his bonus grands and playing with his great grandkids as much as possible. He also loved swimming, eating, especially when it included ice cream, and sharing pints with his great-grand kids with chocolate being his favorite. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, he enjoyed spending time with his church family, and loved them all very much, and his close relationship he shared with his pastor, Tracy Collum.
Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Bryson. His grandson, Justin Shoats. Bonus Grandchildren. Ashley Palmer (Dylan), Alex Fisher, and Chad Fisher, Jr., Bonus Great Grandchildren, Autumn Palmer, Chloe Palmer, Kayden Fisher, and Carla Fisher. His brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Robin Simmons, Wayne, and Leslie Chasteen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Ricky Luffman, Judy and Albert Lofty, and Kelly Simmons; nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive. Along with his fury babies, Toto and Tiny.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 5:00 PM from Hopewell Baptist Church in Ranger with Rev. Tracy Collum officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 23rd, at Hopewell Baptist Church, 225 Hopewell Church Road, Ranger, Georgia 30734, beginning at 3:00 PM until the funeral hour.
