Billy Bechtol passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, in Rockport, Texas. Billy was born on December 12, 1960, in Dallas, and moved with his family to Rockport in 1977. He quickly embraced his new hometown and proudly called Rockport home for the rest of his life.
Billy was a proud graduate of Rockport Fulton High School, where he excelled as an athlete, playing both football and basketball. Friends and teammates remember his easy smile and his competitive spirit. He formed lasting friendships on and off the court and the field.
He worked for the family business, Brake Check, for many years before following his passion for building and craftsmanship into a career in construction, where his skill and eye for detail was evident. Billy remained deeply connected to the Rockport community, drawn to its coastal beauty and small town feel. He will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit, and the rare gift of making everyone always feel welcomed. Known for his warmth and easy conversation, Billy had a way of turning friends and strangers into family. He was always ready with a smile, a listening ear, and a story that left people feeling like they were important to him.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Billy found joy in fishing, boating, and hunting—especially when sharing those adventures with his son, nephews, and friends. He was also an extraordinary cook. His warmth, easy conversation, and unfailing kindness meant that literally everyone felt like a friend. But to so many nieces and nephews, he was simply “Uncle Billy.” He sure did love his extended family, and they were extra ordinarily fond of him. His love for the outdoors carried over into his home. Billy had a green thumb and could make plants flourish. He enjoyed caring for them and the pride that came with it.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Makenzie Conklin and cherished grandchildren; siblings, Stephen Bechtol, Patti Bechtol Smith (Dean), Clay Bechtol (Tracey), and Brad Bechtol (Kellie); Ashley Solis who remains an important part of the family; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews who adored him.
He was proceeded in death by his treasured son, Todd Bechtol and his beloved mother, Linda Bechtol.
