DALTON EDWARD VOSS, age 91, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, in Rockport, Texas. Born on August 7, 1934, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Dalton lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep thoughtfulness, and a steadfast devotion to his family and faith.
Dalton’s early years were shaped by a love of learning and service. He earned his teaching degree at Abilene Christian College and a master’s degree in English at the University of Nebraska. His academic pursuits reflected his lifelong passion for learning and provided a foundation on which he used to carry out his mission of serving others.
Dalton served honorably in the United States Army. Stationed in Anchorage, Alaska during part of his service, he embraced the adventure with characteristic curiosity and resilience. After completing his military duty and always of the mindset that "a rolling stone gathers no moss," he continued to foster his passion for knowledge through learning, teaching and travel. He taught school on the Harmon Air Force in Newfoundland, spent two summers in Mexico and taught high school English on Long Island before making his way to Nashville, Tennessee in search of a "good Christian wife.” Shortly after his arrival, he met the love of his life, Miss Sarah Hatcher, who just over a year later would become his devoted wife and companion of fifty-four years. Their marriage was a testament of unwavering faith, enduring love and mutual respect. Together they touched (and were touched by) countless lives from Tennessee, Iowa, Nebraska and Texas to the "mission field" of northern Michigan...leaving a legacy of love...for God...for each other…and for family that extended beyond biological ties.
Dalton is survived by his daughters, V’Lyndi (Bill) Fisher of Rockport, Texas; Hemalatha Bangaru; and son, Hans (Natasha Flurry) Voss of Hydro, Oklahoma. He was a proud grandfather to Bradley Dohm, Dalton Voss, David Voss, Olivia Flurry, Prem Kumar Bangaru, Sanjay Bangaru, and Sandeep Bangaru. He is also survived by his brother, Dale (Joyce) Voss of Abilene, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Mary Voss, his beloved wife, Sarah Hatcher Voss; sisters, Katherine Brewer and Genevieve Payne; and brother, David Voss.
A member of the Rockport Church of Christ, Dalton lived out his faith through kindness and humility. Those who knew him remember the light in his eyes when he smiled—a man who believed deeply in the power of human touch to comfort and connect…and whose presence brought calmness to those around him.
