Todd L. Newmark

Todd Lahay Newmark, 76, of Burlington, WV, died Thursday, December 12, 2024.
Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of Patricia Wynngate Lockwood and Howard Newmark, and stepson of Lt. Colonel Harry Lockwood.
Todd was raised in Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Maryland and graduated from Suffield Academy in Connecticut, Oberlin College, and the London School of Economics. Todd served his country with two tours of duty in Vietnam War.
Todd was an accomplished writer who had published articles on topics as wide-ranging as Vietnam and log cabin preservation in West Virginia. For many years, he enjoyed visiting the public library in Keyser where he felt most at home and welcome. Todd was also a great lover of music. He studied classical music and flute while in college and enjoyed traveling the mid-Atlantic to attend concerts of all types. His record collection was a source of pride and comfort.
He was a passionate animal lover, particularly of cats. He loved his family home, which he restored with his mother and stepfather when the family relocated to West Virginia in the 1970s. The property brought him much joy until the end of his life.
Todd was a loving and loyal son who took care of his mother until she passed away in 2005, a nurturing and energetic uncle to his niece, Jaime, and a steadfast brother to Kirk Lockwood of Romney. He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia, his father, Howard, his stepfather, Harry, and his sister-in-law, Regina. He is survived by his brother, Kirk Lockwood of Romney, his niece, Jaime (Jeffrey) of Alexandria, Virginia, and one grand-nephew, Obi. He is also survived by a loving family of half-siblings and nieces and nephews in Chappaqua, NY and in London and Oxford, England.
There will be a visitation at McKee Funeral Home in Romney, WV on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 6-7pm.
Todd will be interred with family at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, VA.
Todd's family would like to thank Keyser Healthcare Center and Mountain Hospice for their love and care of Todd over the last months of his time here on earth.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Todd's name to The Humane Society of the United States at www.humanesociety.org/memorial.
