Tom Cumpton

Louie "Tom" Thomas Cumpton, 89, of Russell, Kentucky passed away, February 24, 2026, at The Lantern at Morning Pointe in Russell.

Tom was born on May 27, 1936, in Russell to the late James Ira Cumpton and Eva Lawson Cumpton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Joy Pruit Cumpton, nine siblings: James Richard Cumpton, Mary Madaline Sturgill, Flora Dorothy Adams, George Ollie Cumpton, Joan Scott, Helen Rose Hobbs, Violete Faye Boggs, Herbert Elmer Cumpton and Charlotte Foster, and one granddaughter Kelly Jo Mays.

He is survived by one son, Louie Thomas Cumpton Jr. of Leesburg, Florida, three daughters, Debra Kay Cumpton Mays of Ironton, Ohio, Sheila Cumpton Adkins and her husband Jon of Raceland, Kentucky and Rose Mary Cumpton and her spouse Vicki of Middletown, Ohio, four siblings, Chassie Irene Lucas, Waymouth Ira Cumpton, Rupert Eugene Cumpton and Edward Ray Cumpton Sr., five grandchildren, Kari Diane Webb, Joshua Kane Adkins, Kristie Mays, Louie Thomas Cumpton III and Breanna Tackett, nineteen great grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Tom was a faithful member of the Abundant Life Pentecostal Church, where his steady presence and servant's heart were a blessing to many. His faith shaped the way he lived, with kindness, humility, and a willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.

He found great joy in working the land and took special pride in his apple orchard, which stood as a testament to his patience and care. A true jack of all trades, Tom could fix or build just about anything, from carpentry projects to auto body work. There was rarely a problem around the house he couldn't solve. He had a quiet confidence in his skills and was always the first to offer help to family, friends, and neighbors.

When he wasn't working with his hands, you could find him cheering on the University of Kentucky, proudly supporting his Wildcats through every season. Tom will be remembered for his strong hands, faithful heart, and the love he poured in to both his family and the life he built around them.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, March 2, 2026, at Carman Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Cook officiating.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM till the service hour, Monday, March 2, 2026, at Carman Funeral Home.
