Sharon Gail Cogan Whitt, 78, of
Flatwoods, Kentucky, passed away on February 24, 2026 at SOMC Hospice.
She was born on July 9, 1947, in
Ashland, Kentucky to the late Martin Lewis Cogan and Vivian Elkins Cogan.
Sharon is survived by her loving spouse, Charles D. Whitt Sr., four children, Angela Evans, Charles D. Whitt Jr., Susan Evans, and Matthew Whitt, three grandchildren, Denee' Whitt Sizemore, Derrick Whitt, and Kyra Evans, and a host of other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Sharon lived a life defined by dedication to her family, her community, and the simple joys that brought her happiness. Early in her career, she worked as a delivery worker for the United States Postal Service. She later served as a secretary at Craven's Construction before spending many years as a secretary for Dr. Henry Jones, where she was known for her reliability and warm presence.
Sharon was deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of the PTA at McDowell Elementary School and proudly served as its President. She was also a devoted member of Melrose United Methodist Church, where her faith and fellowship were important parts of her life. At home, Sharon found joy in quilting and crocheting, creating handmade pieces that will continue to comfort and remind her family of her love for years to come. Sharon will be remembered for her steady devotion to her family, her service to others, and the quiet kindness she showed throughout her life.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 PM, Friday, February 27, 2026, at Carman Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Kinghorn officiating. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park in
Ashland, KY.
Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 11:30 AM till 12:30 PM, Friday, February 27, 2026, at Carman Funeral Home.
