Louis Thomas DeLaFleur
May 11,1938 - September 17, 2025
Tom died peacefully surrounded by his family after being ill all summer.
Tom was born in Utica, New York. His family moved to New York City shortly thereafter.
After WWII they moved to
Alexandria, Virginia and he grew up in Northern Virginia. He was in the first graduating class of Annandale High School. After high school he followed his parents to Mexico City where he graduated from Mexico City College. He returned to Northern Virginia and started his career as a Spanish and History teacher in Fairfax County schools. When he retired from this job he taught Spanish and Language and Literature at the Madeira School. He spent many summers pursuing a masters degree. He graduated from St. Louis University in Madrid with an MA.
Tom's love of history included World War Il airplanes. He followed airshows when and where ever he could. He followed in his father's footsteps as a amateur radio operator. He was an active member of the Herndon Police Citizens Support Team before the advent of cell phones. He was a certified auto mechanic. Tom knew cars inside out and loved to drive. He was an avid storyteller, bringing both his adventures and everyday experiences to life for family and friends.
Tom will be greatly missed by his family and friends especially Teri, his wife of 61 years, his children, Mike and Lisa, as well as grandchildren, great grand children, and many nieces and nephews.
Tom will be remembered for his love of the Spanish language and culture, storytelling and the joy he found in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
