Tom D. Pannell, of Oak Hill, passed away on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 after a brief illness.
Born on August 7, 1956 in Oak Hill, Tom was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and grew up in the Gatewood area. He is the son of the late Clarence "Punk" Pannell and Lucille Pannell.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Clarence "Punk" Pannell and his daughter, Tiffany Brooke Pannell.
Tom is survived by his beloved Susie (Susan Edwards); his mother Lucille Pannell; his step-daughter Robin Thomas DiBartolomeo and husband Jay of Beckley; grandsons Nicholas Toussaint and Andrew Toussaint of Vermont; grandsons Anthony DiBartolomeo and Thomas DiBartolomeo of Beckley; brother Charlie Pannell and wife Beth of Victor; brother John Pannell of Victor; and four sisters; Jonetta, Donna, Linda, and Kay; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Tom started operating heavy equipment at a young age. His expert skill, particularly on a Kubota backhoe, was known to everyone who saw him in action. Tom worked for many years alongside his father and brothers at Pannell and Sons Excavating. After Punk retired and closed the family business, the brothers Pannell ended up working together again, but this time for The City of Oak Hill with the Street Department. Tom spent many hours digging lines, working on the Rail Trail, and even preparing the snowplows. He had a very gentle and patient nature, which made him an excellent mentor and friend for the younger generations who worked beside him.
Tom loved nothing more than spending time with his family and his little pup, Coco. On the weekend, you could often find Tom doing home improvement projects, spending time with Susie and Coco while camping, or teaching his grandsons a new skill. Years ago, Tom dedicated his life to Christ and he showed that love to all who knew him.
