Thomas Alvie "Tom" Vasseur

Tom Vasseur, 92 of Benton, Kentucky passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 with his loving wife, Frieda, by his side.

Tom was a Korean veteran and served 20 years honorably in the Navy and Army Reserve. He was a member of Hardin Baptist Church, owner of Quality Mobile Homes, Madisonville, KY, co-owner of Federated Marketing Insurance Co., Evansville, IN, the American Legion Post 236 Calvert City, KY where he organized the Honor Guard, served as commander for 10 years, and performed over 500 funerals for surrounding veterans and members of the VFW. He was the mayor of Hanson, KY for two terms.

He is survived by his wife, Freida Williams Vasseur, daughter, Melonie Weatherford (Richard), granddaughters, Devon, Emily, Noelle, great-granddaughter, Sophia, sisters, Jane Hines (Bob), Linda Woodward, Nickie Jones, step-children, Teresa (Steve), Scott (Dawn), Gayle (Eric), seven step-grandchildren, 14 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Susie, parents, Roy L. and Lexie (Donohoo) Vasseur, sisters, M. Jo Edwards, Martha Kendell, brothers, Roy D. "Lane", William Jake "Willie", and Joseph Lee "Joe" Vasseur, twin daughters, Malinda and Belinda Vasseur, Marla Vasseur, and several nieces and nephews.

Tom will be greatly missed. He was our "rock."

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Collier Funeral Home with Minister Jeremy Rogers officiating.

Interment with military rites will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th Street, Benton, KY 42025.
