Tomas Ortiz

Our beloved Tomas Ortiz SR. was called home by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at age 84.

Tomas was born in Kyle, Texas on September 27, 1937 to Alcario Ortiz and Bibiana Arredondo. At a young age, he enjoyed fishing and as his family grew he passed down this pastime to his children and grandchildren. Tomas met his wife, Mary Lee Villalpando, in 1958 at a local gas station and knew instantly she was the one and they were married the following year.

Tomas was a skilled carpenter and could fix anything that was put in front of him. He built the home his family has lived in for 62 years. Tomas was a true story teller and loved to share his adventures and life lessons with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling and was able to visit many places across the United States over the years. Tomas instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of life and its successes come for having a strong work ethic, love from your family, and caring for others.

Once retired, Tomas enjoyed spending his time with his family, staying busy around the house, and going to the casino. He enjoyed starting his day with a cup of coffee in his hand and pan dulce on his plate. Tomas loved and adored his wife, his "Viejita Bonita", everyday until his last day. His family was the light of his life and he loved sitting back and watching everyone come together. Tomas enjoyed making people laugh with his jokes every chance he could. He has left his family with fond memories and countless stories that will last a lifetime and he will be dearly missed.

Tomas was preceded in death by his sons John and Thomas Ortiz, his brother Domingo Ortiz, and his sisters Trinidad Corrazo and Beatrice Delgado.

He was survived by his loving wife, Mary Lee Villalpando of 63 years, sister Dominga Guerra, his four children David Ortiz (Yolanda), Steve Ortiz (Terry), Sylvia Ortiz, and Rebeca Guerra (Jennifer); ten grandchildren John Anthony Ortiz (Marisa), Ashley Rivera (Alejandro), Heather Ortiz, Jessica Cain (Nesby); Veronica Maldonado (Chris), Christopher Ortiz (Vanessa), Angela Gonzales (Miguel), Makayla Ortiz, Mikel Ortiz, and Jacob Ortiz; and six great grandchildren Alexandria Ortiz, Christopher Ortiz Jr., Jayla Maldonado, Zoey Ortiz, Norah Rivera, and Bibiana Maldonado.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas. Visitation will be followed by a prayer service.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Sinai Pentecostal Church in San Marcos, Texas. Tomas will be laid to rest at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, Texas.
