Tomasa Ortiz, 82, of Haskell, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at home surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am, Monday, December 1, 2025 at St. George Catholic Church with Rev. John Peter Santhanppan officiating. Burial will follow in Rule Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D. A rosary will be held 5pm, Sunday, November 30, 2025 at St. George Catholic Church. Tomasa was born December 18, 1942, in Harlingen, Texas, the daughter of the late Tomas Gonzales and Maria Sanchez Gonzales. On June 12, 1958, she married Gavino Carion Ortiz, Sr. Tomasa worked as a bus driver for Haskell ISD for 16 years, a job she truly enjoyed. She loved listening to music, but most of all, she cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. She was a faithful member of St. George Catholic Church. She was a loving mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, sister, Adela Garcia and brother, Andy Gonzales.
Tomasa is survived by her children: Sylvia Sanchez and husband Arturo of Dublin, GA; Gavino Ortiz, Jr. and wife Irene of Rowlette, TX; Robert Ortiz of Haskell, TX; Jesse Ortiz of Sylvia of Ft. Worth, TX; Victor Ortiz of Haskell, TX; Joe Ortiz and wife Michelle of Phoenix, AZ; Ophelia Sanchez of Haskell, TX; Becky Ortiz of Lubbock, TX; Nicky Ortiz and wife Diane of Stephenville, TX; Johnny Ortiz and wife Julie of Arlington, TX; 16 grandchildren and 35 great, grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Josephina Flores of Roby, TX; Gloria Valerio of Abilene, TX; Lupe Gonzales of Oklahoma City, OK; Ramon Gonzales of Oklahoma City, OK; Jesse Gonzales of Clovis, NM; Abel Gonzales of Abilene, TX; Teresa Gonzales of Wichita Falls, TX; Ruben Dominguez of Oklahoma City, OK; Larry Gonzales of Bovina TX; Jimmy Gonzales of Elsa-Edcouch, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.
