Tommy Lawson Akens

Tommy Lawson Akens, age 73, of Sweetwater, passed away peacefully at his home on April 24, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Tommy was a well-known Dairy and Beef Farmer, and he enjoyed being on the farm with his wife and 3 daughters. He was a lifelong member of Murray's Baptist Church, and he loved the Lord with all his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lester and Hazel Akens, stepmother Faye Akens, father and mother-in-law Edward and Alene Parks, siblings JB, Gene, Clyde, Kenneth, and Doyle Akens, and his beloved daughter Christine Akens Moser.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years Carolyn Jane Akens,
daughters and sons-in-law, Julie (Eric) Pappageorge and LeAnn (Nick)
Starnes. Grandchildren Austin (Taylor) Akens, Kaleb (Kali) Moser,
Natalie Hyde, Abby, Ally, and Tilley Starnes, Harlee Moser, Erica and Rylan Pappageorge, and great grandson Thomas Bentley Akens, all of Sweetwater. Several other beloved family members and friends including his lifelong best friend Tommy Thompson of Niota. Pallbearers: Eric Pappageorge, Nick Starnes, Austin Akens, Kaleb Moser, Shelby Lampkin, Gabe Littreal, Rylan Pappageorge, Trent Thompson, Trace Cook, and honorary pallbearer: Tommy Thompson.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 28, 2025 at the Murray's Baptist Church in Sweetwater, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 P.M. with Rev. Dakota McLemore officiating. Interment will be conducted on Tuesday at 12:00 noon in the Murray's Baptist Church Cemetery.
