Tommy Calhoun was born in Orange Texas on November 18th 1964. He was the first born child of Margie and Earnest Calhoun. Tommy grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School class of 1984.
In high school Tommy played basketball and ran track and field and participated in many church activities. Tommy was a dedicated member in the World Wide Church of God. Tommy was raised in a loving and God fearing household that always put God and family first. Tommy had three younger siblings Barris, Tracy, and Bryan and they were thick as thieves growing up. Tommy followed in his father's footsteps and started his career in Mason construction at the age of 18. Tommy, his father, and his brothers worked for the construction union and spent much time working on jobs and traveling together. Tommy's alliance with the union enabled him to travel all over the country with his family.
The Calhoun family moved to
Bartlesville, Oklahoma as they were contracted to build the Phillips buildings in downtown Bartlesville. Tommy met Christy Cole in Bartlesville and fell in love. Tommy and Christy married and had three beautiful children Michael, David and Amanda. Tommy was a dedicated husband and father. There isn't one person who has known Tommy that can't tell you about the love and admiration he had for his children.
Tommy worked for Brazeal Masonry for many years. Tommy and Christy divorced but Tommy never ever let that stop him from being a present and involved parent and a father to look up to. Tommy became a full-time parent to his children and got a second job at Walmart to support them. To say Tommy was an incredibly hard worker is an understatement. They simply don't make men like Tommy anymore. Tommy worked two jobs for 14 years to ensure his children were taken care of. He was a loving but stern parent, thoughtfully teaching the values of respect, hard work, perseverance, and responsibility to his children. He ensured his children had top notch manners and respect for others. Tommy truly led by example, even with two jobs he hardly ever missed a day of work, would show up early, do his job, work with all his might, show respect to others, help others, and leave no task incomplete or half-assed. He was a man of his word, a reliable person and family man.
Tommy had a passion for crappie fishing. In his free time, you would catch him at the lake, a pond, or creek bed fishing away. Tommy had a way of making people feel good about themselves, always keeping them smiling and laughing. Tommy had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh. His presence alone could light up a room. Tommy enjoyed dressing up and believed in always looking your best and staying sharp. This was evident in his heavily starched and sharply creased jeans. Tommy loved to dance and enjoyed music of all kinds. He loved spending time with family and friends playing Dominos and cutting up.
Tommy was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer's at the age of 55. This awful disease slowly took Tommy away from us. In his last four years he enjoyed a life of leisure, spending quality time with his children, friends, family, and animals. Making lasting memories filled with love and laughter. Tommy was loved and adored by his family just as passionately as he loved others. We will always carry him in our hearts and honor him with our lives.
Tommy was preceded in death by his Father Earnest Calhoun, and Brother Barris Calhoun. Tommy is survived by his Mother Margie Calhoun. His sons Michael (Gabriella) Calhoun, David (Marla) Calhoun and daughters Amanda Calhoun and Lacy Ross. Siblings: Tracy Barker, and Bryan Calhoun.
