Tommy Lee Carter

Tommy Lee Carter, a cherished family man and respected electrician, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at the age of 84, in Canton, GA. Born on November 27, 1940, in the quaint town of Hazelhurst, GA.
After serving with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army, Tommy embarked on a career as a self-employed certified electrician, showcasing his meticulous skills in maintaining the integrity of some of the nation's most critical structures. His hands and expertise touched the buildings at the CDC and Kodak, ensuring safety and functionality for countless individuals who passed through those halls.
Tommy's work ethic was unparalleled, but he always managed to find a balance between his professional obligations and his personal passions. A true family man at heart, he found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. He often spent his free time immersed in nature, whether it was deer watching in the serene woodlands or observing the tranquil flights of birds in their natural habitat. The beach held a special place in Tommy's heart, offering him a sanctuary where he could relax to the rhythmic sounds of the ocean waves.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilanell Carter; parents, Jack and Dellamae Carter; brothers, Cecil Carter, Henry Carter, Carroll Carter and AJ Carter; sisters, Juanell Brown and Barbara Mancell.
Tommy is survived by his daughters, Debbie Bookout (David) and Cindy Stephens (Dwayne); grandchildren, Scott Bookout, John Bookout (Ploypailin) and Holly Stephens; great-grandchildren, Hailey Bookout, Onnya Bookout and Vietta Bookout; great-great-grandchild, Phoenix Lehman; sisters, Sandra Johnson and Linda Carelock; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ken May officiating. Interment will follow in Copper Ridge Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 11th from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, August 12th from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
