Tommy Lee Cook, 84, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away on November 4, 2025. Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Iles Westover Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Glendale Cemetery.
Tom was born on December 25, 1940, in Hula, Oklahoma to Dorothy (Brooks) and Ocie Edward Cook. On September 16, 1961, he married Dolores Ann Brown in Miami, Oklahoma. Tom served in the US Air Force (SAC), stationed at Schilling AFB as a radio technician on the flight line. While raising his young family and being a HAM radio operator, he was active in MARS (military affiliated radio station) using Morse Code, voice and teletype from his garage with messages sent back home to families during the Vietnam War.
Tom was a Webelos leader with John Budeslich and Truman Lewis for his son Joe's Scout program. He was also president owner of Business Communications Corporation (dispatch radios sales and service,) as well as Past President of the Urbandale Lions Club.
Tom is survived by his wife, Dee; children, Joe (Susan) Cook of Coralville and daughter, Tammi (Curt) Schwaderer of Johnston; grandchildren: Tommy Schwaderer, Ryan Cook, Michael Schwaderer, Andrew Schwaderer, and Erin Cook; brother, Robert Cook; nieces, Heather Lynn Cook Abel and Shana Cook Stevens; nephew, Martin Charles Cook; and a sister in-law, Debra Berggren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tommy Lee Cook Jr.; daughter, Anita Louise Cook; brother, Edward Wayne Cook; and a niece, Amy Elizabeth Cook.
