Tommy Wayne Current

Tommy Wayne Current, 75, was called to his heavenly home on September 14, 2025, due to a heart ailment. He was born in Knoxville, Iowa, and spent most of his life in Des Moines, Iowa. Tommy graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 1968.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa, located at 4208 N. Ankeny Blvd. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

He was truly a jack of all trades, known for his strong work ethic and enjoyment of hands-on jobs. Over the years, Tommy worked in various fields, including Firestone, siding, roofing, building homes, and driving trucks-encompassing everything from concrete mixers to semis, and even school buses. He eventually retired from Beissler Lumber.

Outside of work, Tommy had a variety of hobbies. He loved attending classic car shows, hunting, and going to dog and horse races. He also enjoyed listening to music and, in his younger years, indulged in weightlifting and dancing.

Tommy was friendly to everyone he met. He had a laid-back demeanor and a kind heart. To know him was to love him.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, David and Rosalie Current; his wife, Margaret; his sister, Cathy Stephen; his son, Robert Cox; and his step-son, Casey Harrison.

He is survived by his twin sisters, Cindy Gatch and Vickie (Daniel) Brooks; his sister, Deborah McInroy; his brother, Michael (Melanie) Current; and his children, Heath (Janelle) Current, Steven (Tanya) Current, and Angie (Carlos) Wilder. He is also survived by his step-sons, Chris Harrison and Kirk Harrison, as well as ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
