Tommy Curry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Freeman Funeral Home Inc on Feb. 14, 2026.
Tommy David Curry, 79 of Chapmanville, WV, passed away on February 12, 2026, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV.

He was born October 10, 1946 in Amherstdale, WV to Marcus Curry and Francis Curry. Tommy was a man defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep love for the simple joys of life.

Tommy worked several years in Chicago before returning home to West Virginia to raise his family. There, he worked as a coal miner, dedicating himself to providing for those he loved. His work ethic and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda Sue Curry, who passed in November 2021. Their marriage was the foundation of a close-knit family that Tommy treasured above all else.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Francis Curry, his brothers, Estil Curry, Eddie Curry, Richard Curry and Sammy Curry and his sister, Sue Trodgon.

Tommy is survived by his children: David (Sherri) Curry, Ronald (Suzie) Curry, and April (Kenny) Townsend. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Luke Compton, Chloe Curry, and Tommy Curry III, who brought him immense joy and pride.

He also leaves behind a special family friend, Kevin Washington, whose friendship meant so much to him.

An avid golfer and bowler for many years, Tommy enjoyed friendly competition and fellowship until health reasons slowed him down. He was a loyal and enthusiastic fan of the WVU Mountaineers and could often be found cheering on his favorite team. More than anything, he loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Tommy will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to family, and the love he shared so freely. His legacy lives on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor PJ Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
