Tommy Dean Hunt passed away Tuesday April 2, 2024, in Owensboro, KY surrounded by his loving family, including six of his grandchildren. He was born August 3, 1944, to the late Theodore and Elsie Hunt. He grew up in Masonville, KY, lived in Maceo, KY and spent the last 20 years or so in Lewisport, KY. Never meeting a stranger, Tommy made many great friends along the way who he always enjoyed stopping to catch up with.
Tommy served his country in the Marine Corp during Vietnam. He spent 6 years working for Carpenter Local 549 and then the rest of his working career working as a boilermaker out of Boilermakers Local 40 retiring in 2001. After retirement he continued to work in his shop, not only welding but repairing anything that would show up. Continuing this right up to his passing, he enjoyed a good challenge and helping others while doing it. He also served his community on the Hancock Planning and Zoning Board and Board of Adjustments.
Tommy enjoyed fishing most of all not only with a host of great friends, but also with his wife. Some of his favorite spots were Guntersville Lake, Lake Barkley, and KY Lake. He also enjoyed riding his Harley, gardening, being outside or in the shop and helping anyone in the family on their latest home project or renovation.
He was a lifelong blood donor and was always willing to help someone in need. Anyone that knew him would tell you there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do or fix.
Tommy was preceded in death by a brother Joffrey Hunt, sister Violet Potts and niece Darlene Hendrick.
He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Gayla Robertson Hunt of Lewisport; four sons, Adam (Holly) Hunt of Hawesville, Blake (Ami) Hunt of Lewisport, Wayne Hall of Owensboro and Brandon (Natali) Hall of Knottville; a host of grandchildren; and great-grandchildren who loved to visit “Papaw” up on the hill; mother-in-law, Mary Woodward of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog “Buddy”, and cats, Mister, Tomboy and Lucy.
The funeral service for Tommy will be 10 AM Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Friday from 3 PM until 7 PM **(with Boiler Maker Rights at 6:30PM) and Saturday, 9 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
