Tommy Joe Thurman

Tommy Joe Thurman, 74, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on February 7th, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Born August 18, 1951, to Jesse Sue (Hatfield) and Floyd Thurman, Tommy worked as a welder throughout his career, and in his early years contributed to projects including submarines - which, as he liked to put it, "were guaranteed to sink."

He is survived by his best friend and partner, Cynthia Thurman; their children, Zach and Niki Thurman; their granddaughter, Khloe Thurman; and his close friend Terry Shive, who was like a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Mickey, Steve, and Tony Thurman.

He spent part of his youth in the South and proudly referred to himself as a hillbilly - a reflection of both his Appalachian roots and his spirit. Tommy enjoyed traveling, cooking, fishing, reading, watching his favorite movies, playing golf, and entertaining his family with tall tales of his past adventures. His sense of humor had a way of turning strangers into friends and leaving people with a story to remember.

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and no service will be held. Those who knew and loved him are encouraged to share a memory that made them smile, keeping his humor and stories alive.
