Tommy "Catfish" Wayne Turner peacefully passed away on November 15, 2025, at his residence in Myrtle, MS. Born on December 10, 1952, in Memphis, TN, Tommy's journey through life was marked by an unwavering devotion to his family, a storied career serving his country and community, and a joyful spirit that made him an unforgettable presence to all who knew him.
Tommy's early years were shaped by the loving guidance of his parents, the late Lewis Finch Turner and Maddie Jewel Mann Turner. Their values deeply influenced Tommy, who grew up alongside his late siblings, Lacey Turner, Raymond Turner, Richard Turner, and Linda Hicks, as well as his living sister, Martha Webb (Raymond), and brother, Lewis Grimes. His dedication to family remained a cornerstone of his life as he lovingly embraced his role as a husband to Pamela Nowlin Turner and a father to Amy Powell (John), Joey Turner (Miranda), and Austin Turner (Liz). His ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren brought immense joy and pride to his world.
Tommy honorably served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated his patriotic spirit on board the USS Constellation (CVA-64). After his military service, Tommy crafted a career as a woodworking supervisor at Benchcraft Furniture, where his creative touch and leadership were highly valued. He later worked as a truck driver.
A man of deep Christian faith, Tommy was a former deacon of Macedonia Baptist Church. His personal interests reflected a man of many talents and passions. Tommy was a highly skilled woodworker, a pastime where his creativity was shown. Fishing was one of his favorite hobbies and he loved hanging out with his family and friends.
Above all, Tommy was a man characterized by his love, generosity, and creativity. He was always ready to help someone in need. As we remember Tommy, we celebrate a life rich in experiences and relationships, a life spent building, serving, and loving, a legacy that will continue to inspire and resonate within the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. A visitation will be held at United Funeral Service on Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. American Legion Post 72 will conduct military honors.
