Sammy Eugene "Sam" Coffey

Sammy "Sam" E. Coffey, a cherished father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at his daughter's residence in Pontotoc, Mississippi. Born on April 9, 1943, in Union County, Mississippi, Sammy lived a good, full life characterized by his devotion to family, his service to the community, and his love for Ford's and Fried Catfish.
Sammy's passion for life was evident in his work and pastimes. He retired after years of numerous jobs including his time as Union County District 2 Supervisor; but Sammy was a Trucker (10-24). His favorite pastime was FISHING.
A devout Christian, Sammy was a longstanding member of the West Tallahatchie Baptist Church. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his actions and his relationships with others. Known for his friendly disposition, kind nature, and never met a stranger; Sammy inspired many.
Sammy's legacy is lovingly carried on by his two daughters, Gretta Sims and her husband, Chuck, and Suzanne Waldrop and her husband, Bill; his two brothers, Larry Coffey (Ann), Jerry Coffey (Susan) and a sister-in-law, Holly Coffey (Milton). He was the proud grandfather to Jordan Goolsby Moore, Chase Sims (Betsy), Courtney Shaw (Ben), Scout Waldrop, and Ashton Waldrop (Emma), and delighted in the role of great-grandfather to Lynlee, Rylee Randall, Steeley, Jack, Rolan, Stella, Eloise, Lucy, and Linden. Uncle Sam's life was also enriched by the love and presence of several nieces and nephews.
Sammy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Lynn Coker Coffey; his parents, Guy E. "Buster" Coffey and Maveline Gray Coffey; and his dear brother, Milton Coffey.
Sammy Coffey's life was one of integrity, warmth, and unwavering love and he will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at United Funeral Service from 11:00 a.m. until funeral service time at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Jeff Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be at Philadelphia Cemetery in Lafayette County.
Pallbearers will be Shane Coffey, Trent Coffey, Chad Coffey, Keith Coffey, Bradley Coffey, Jeffery Coffey and Jason Coffey. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Coffey, Mike Coffey and Dr. Brad Scott.
