WHITLEY – Verlon Thomas (Tommy) Whitley, age 86, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024, at his home in Simpsonville, SC. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ozora Baptist Church Cemetery, 911 Ozora Road, Loganville, GA 30052. The Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Flowers are accepted or donations can be made to the Sewing Ministry at Holly Ridge Baptist Church, 260 Adams Mill Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681. Tommy was born in the community of Harbins in Dacula, GA. He graduated from Dacula High School and went on to study accounting at Strayer College while working for the FBI in Washington, DC. He later returned to Georgia and attended Southern Tech, Georgia Tech and graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He worked for General Electric Company as a wireman, electrical engineer, and financial analyst, retiring after 38 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fountain Inn, SC. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Dacula, GA for many years which he called his home church. He served as a Deacon at Trinity Baptist Church in Schenectady, NY. He was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Greenville, SC and attended Holly Ridge Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC. He was a man of many hats. His hobbies included bee keeping, woodworking, carpentry work, mechanicing, gardening, and repairing anything that was broken. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verlon and Cecil Whitley; brothers, Gordon Whitley and Hugh Whitley; and several nephews. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice Rolader Whitley; daughters, Marie and Debbie Whitley; and son & daughter-in-law, Tom, Jr. and Tonya Whitley; grandchildren, Chris Hunt, Allison Whitley, Logan Flesch, Chelsea Flesch, T.J. Flesch; and great grandson, Jameson Hunt. Arrangements by Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Road SW, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. 770-962-3100.
