Tonja Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services - North Charleston on Nov. 29, 2025.
Tonja Colette Davis, age 57, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Born on September 2, 1968, in Fort Riley, Kansas, Tonja was the youngest of three children of Jerome and Vernell Davis. She grew up in North Charleston and was baptized into the Church of Christ at the age of 11, beginning her lifelong devotion to faith at the Azalea Drive Church of Christ.

Tonja graduated from R.B. Stall High School in June 1986. She pursued higher education at Baptist College, later transferring to Trident Technical College and then Brenau University, where she earned her master's degree in social work in May 2022. Professionally, she dedicated more than 30 years of service as a Federal Civil Servant, a career marked by integrity, commitment, and excellence.

While living in Atlanta, Georgia, Tonja was a devoted member of the Bouldercrest Church of Christ for over 18 years under the guidance of Brother Edward Keyton, who became both her minister and adopted father. Most recently, she worshiped with the Avondale Church of Christ before returning to her hometown of North Charleston.

Tonja's passion for spreading the Gospel was central to her life. She also found joy in attending plays and concerts, traveling, walking her beloved dog Sandy, and sharing cherished walks in the park with her twin sister, Sonja.

She was preceded in death by her eldest sister, Demmary Davis.

Tonja leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, cherished by her mother, Ms. Vernell Davis of North Charleston, SC; her father, Mr. Jerome Davis (Jean) of Merritt Island, FL; her twin sister, Sonja Davis of North Charleston, SC; her bonus sisters, Sandai Howard of Jacksonville, FL, and Rayleen Wilson of Moncks Corner, SC; along with a host of aunts, uncles, extended family, and dear friends.

Tonja's life was a testament to faith, family, and service. She will be remembered for her devotion to God, her compassion for others, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.

We at the Avondale Church Of Christ are saddened to hear of the death of our dear sister Tonja. She was so kind and loving, always concerned about our family, especially my wife and daughters. We got a chance to speak just a few short weeks ago. She will be missed at Avondale. Her steadfastness in the gospel is something we all appreciated. And her kindness, concern, and her beautiful smile is something we will always cherish
