Today with heartfelt sadness i recieved the news of the passing of Sgt Knier. He was My squad leader and TC at 3-187 Rakkasans. Although its many years later learning of this has had the effect as if it was yesterday. Tonight I will sit My son down pull out old photos and tell him the story of SFC Tony Knier. I will steadily repeat this story and ask him to pass it on to his children. It will be the story of a man and a soldier. It will be the story of My friend. With deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones. Our nation has lost its best too soon.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Knier Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

We Stand For Them
We stand for them....
The young and the brave...
Now that day is done...
We stand for them with honor, with pride, with broken hearts and empty arms...
Our heroes have gone on before us - too young to go - but too brave to stay...
Our hearts were set on our lives together, an eternity of days,a future of tommorrows...
yet, day is done...
As the sun rises in the east - And sets in the west
And the day journeys accross out land
With humbled hearts - And greatful prayers
We step forth to take our stand.
We stand for our heroes - We stand for our nation
And we stand for each battle fought
We stand with honor - And we stand with pride
All the things their lives have taught.
And as we stand - We will always remember
The loved ones they have left behind
Dreams not lived - And kisses not given
Are always on our minds.
Each precious Hero - Stood in strength for us all
Our freedoms with their lives they have won
We will never waver - And we will never give up
As we stand for them now that day is done.
We draw together in prayer
May we give thanks to the Almighty that we have such a land of blessing and hope to live in. A land provided and sustained by the brave of our nation. Those who have stepped fourth to right wrongs and secure liberties. Those our heroes, who have gone before us.
May we rememberand pray for their families ~ seeking their comfort, their healing, their stregth. May we beseech God that they may live in peace, the peace brought forth to our nation by the sacrifice of their hero.
And may we pray for one another. May we never forget what our heroes have given. May we hold our standards high and bringing their honor forth.
Those, too young to go - but too brave to stay...
Now day is done...
WE STAND FOR THEM !

i was coming home from R and R when i was told of my ex drill SGT that died in iraq from SSG D. I remember when I first came into the army, my senior Drill SGT was SSG Knier lol boy was I scared of him, but he turned me into what I am now. With his guidance and condfindence in me i dont think that I would have ever made it in the Amry. He incouraged me to go to RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Program) and Airborne School. he had the biggest influence on me achieveing my dreams. After i graduated airborne the first person i wanted to see was him, we had a long talk about all the things that i wanted to accomplish in the military, if it wasnt for him i would have never been where I'm at. Thanks SFC Knier for making me the soldier that my soldiers can look up to, u are greatly missed Rest in Peace SFC

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Tony, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

On Thursday, 25 September, I
went to the Walmart in
Springfield to buy items for
three care packages to be
sent to troops serving in
Iraq, one Marine and two
soldiers. A rear window
decal on a car in the
parking space behind mine
caught my eye. There was a
silhouette of a cross grave
marker with a helmeted
figure on one knee beside
it. Below that were the
words "In memory of my son,
SFC Tony L. Kneir, Killed in
Action October 21, 2006,
Bayji, Iraq."
I try to be generous when
picking out care package
contents, but there's always
a bit of a contest between
my tightwad tendencies and
the better angels of my
nature (Sam's Club vs. name
brand). On Thursday, the better
angels scored an effortless
shutout.
I thought you would like to
know that the memory of your
son lives on and contributes
to the greater good in ways
no one could have foreseen.
SFC Knier rests in the arms
of a just and mighty
Creator. I hope that you
and all who loved him find
solace there as well.

It doesn't seem possible that a year has passed. Hunting season is starting here and it always makes me think of you. I am sure for Travis it is a way for him to remember the good times that you had together. I also know that it is still a time that he can spend with you.
I still have your email that I received on October 21st; it is still in my inbox. I always read it when I am having a difficult time with Kaylee. You told me, "I promise it will get better." You were right, it has.
Travis was so lucky to have you as his friend and brother. Believe me, Kaylee will know who her Uncle Tony was.
By the way, if you are not too busy up there, could you send that trophy buck Travis's way? He will know it is from you.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Soldier saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill. I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag! had draped a coffin.
Of a brother son or friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.
Tony we celebrate your Birthday with memories and tears, but because your with our Precious Lord,we soon will meet again.
I'm so proud of you Tony.
Till that day we meet in heaven, Love Mom

Tony and I shared many, many memories together before he moved upstate.I missed him so much when he moved away, and miss him again now in a whole different way. He was always someone that I thought the world of...and even though we lost touch with each other over the years, now more than ever, I am greatful to have known such an honorable person. He has touched so many people in various ways...and that can never be taken away. Tony, thank for all that you have given for us all. Someday we will all meet again.
P.S. Happy Birthday

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Tony was my best friend! In our younger days he kept me out of trouble when I tried to get us into trouble, and If it wasn't for the friendship that we had I can say that I may have really been in a worse place than I am today.
I miss Tony everyday and I will continue to keep him close to my heart!
To Tony: I know that the years that we lost touch brought distance between us, but when we reconnected it was just like old times. You were and will always be the Best Friend that I ever had! I will see you again one day so keep that fire burning till I get there.
Love, Brett
