Tony Lamont Mixon

Tony Lamont Mixon, age 62, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023.Tony was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late George Woodrow Mixon and Bernice Marie Thomas Mixon on October 11, 1961. He grew up on the south side of Chicago and was the youngest of three children (sisters, Tonya Griffin and Janet Crowder). He relocated to Radcliff, Kentucky and in 1994, he met the love of his life: Laura. Tony and Laura shared a lifetime of memories filled will love and laughter.
Tony was talented, spoke his mind and had a natural charisma. His passion for cooking began while he was enlisted in the US Navy where he served Captains and Government Officers. He had worked at various restaurants throughout Atlanta. He enjoyed his time at Jason's Deli on Chapel Hill Road most where he became an integral part of the community. People came by, sometimes to visit specifically with Tony. He was a showman and loved entertaining customers and speaking to everyone. His talents did not go unnoticed and Tony was quickly nominated as employee of the month.
Tony enjoyed music deep down in his soul. Throughout his life and even through his recent fight against illness, he continued to sing oldies and dance. People naturally gravitated towards him and Tony enjoyed bringing joy and laughter to others. Tony also had a competitive nature and enjoyed talking smack with his friends, playing cards and winning dominos. He often wrote down his thoughts, created poetry and his creativity flowed through art. At home, he enjoyed relaxing to the true crime genre: court tv, Criminal Minds, NCIS and Ion dramas. Tony's joyful spirit helped carry him through life.
Tony's memory will be cherished by his wife of 29 years, Laura Ann Mixon; 7 children;12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters; and extended family members and friends.
A committal service will be held at 9:00 AM, Friday, December 22, 2023 at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia 30114. Please arrive at 8:30 AM to join the funeral cortege procession. Following his service, Tony will be laid to rest in the Georgia National Cemetery Columbarium.
