Antonio "Tony" Ruiz
November 20, 1926 – December 3, 2024
Antonio "Tony" Ruiz passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, at his home in Mount Vernon, Washington. He was born on November 20, 1926, in Salvatierra, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Tony immigrated to the United States in the mid-to-late 1940s, beginning his journey in Texas. After working a variety of jobs, he met the love of his life, Lala. The couple married on September 3, 1949, in Raymondville, Texas. Together, they traveled with the crops as migrant workers before settling in La Conner, where they raised their family.
Tony worked for Moore Clark for over 25 years and was a proud member of the Teamsters Union. In 1996, Tony and Lala sold their property in La Conner and moved to Mount Vernon, where they enjoyed their retirement years together. The couple was often seen enjoying time at local casinos. Tony loved spending time with family, painting, drawing, and being outdoors.
Tony is survived by his children: Roy (Judy) Ruiz of La Conner; Angela (Ric) Martinez of Mount Vernon; Mary (Julian) Fuentes of Mount Vernon; Hopie Ruiz of Mount Vernon; Anita (John) Smith of Anacortes; and Gloria (Jack) Roy of Mount Vernon. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and his brother, George (Joan) Ruiz of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eulalia "Lala" Ruiz; his son, Richard Ruiz; and four brothers and one sister.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Northwest (227 Freeway Dr. Suite A, Mount Vernon, WA 98273) or Children of the Valley (1318 S. 18th St., Mount Vernon, WA 98274).
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church, followed by a Committal Service at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
