Tonya McGlaughlin
December 13, 1967 - June 17, 2025
Tonya McGlaughlin, 57, of Hudson, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025, after a quick but courageous battle with AML at the University of Iowa, surrounded by her loved ones.
Tonya was born December 13, 1967, in Colorado Springs, the daughter of Rodney and Bonnie Turner. After high school, she joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1985 to 1993, where she earned the title of Legal Specialist. She received the Army Service Ribbon, Two Army Achievement Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, and an honorable discharge.
Tonya began her credit union journey at Dupaco Community Credit Union in 2002. She made her mark in countless ways and touched many lives. Over the last 23 years, she dedicated herself to her second family at Dupaco, where she became a "work mom" to many, instilling herself in her team and PUSHING them to be their best selves. She was driven to help people in her community discover and achieve their dreams. While working, she graduated from Upper Iowa University in 2006. Tonya continued to give back to her community through many outlets, including Habitat for Humanity, My Waterloo Days, and crocheting hats for American Heart Association, just to name a few. She had recently begun getting involved with AMVETS to better support fellow veterans in the area. Tonya received numerous awards over the years, most recently being named Volunteer of the Year by Main Street Iowa in 2023.
Tonya had many passions and hobbies. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, traveling, and camping. She loved her Mexico family and her crazy camping crew. But her most important roles were being a wife, mom, and grandma. She raised three strong and independent daughters with the help of her best friend, Candy Hersey. In 2003, she married her husband, Russ McGlaughlin, forming a true family, and gaining the son she had always wanted, while giving her daughters a supportive dad. In 2013, she was promoted to grandma, where she went above and beyond that title. She shared her passions with her grandkids and made great memories attending their activities and spending lots of time with them.
Survived by her husband, Russ McGlaughlin; three daughters, Megan (Tony) Curley, Morgan Henriksen, and Marina Henriksen; son, Tyler (Alyssa) McGlaughlin; three grandkids, Braxton Curley, Brynlee Curley, and Bryson McGlaughlin; one grandpup, Wrigley; her mom, Bonnie Turner; sister, Lora (Charles) Acrey; and brother, Jason (Brittany) Turner.
Preceded in death by her dad, Rodney Turner.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 2 to 6 p.m. at The Fraternal Order of Eagles, located at 202 E First St, Waterloo, IA 50703. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion at 3 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to gather, share memories, and honor a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the memorial account "Tonya McGlaughlin Benefit" being held at Dupaco Community Credit Union. Funds will be used to support the
Hope Lodge, which provided care and comfort to Megan and Marina during Tonya's hospital stay, and to the Leukemia Research Foundation to help fund critical research and provide assistance to other patients and families.
