Tracy Michelle Bates passed away on October 9, 2025 in Edina, MN surrounded by her family.
Tracy was born on July 2, 1971 in Minneapolis, MN and was the loving daughter of Roy A Scherer (deceased) and Janet Nelson.
Tracy graduated from Hopkins High school in 1989, then she went on to earn a dental assistant degree in 1991. In 1992, she started her professional career as a figure skating coach which was what she loved most and worked with kids until her death.
On March 29, 2014 she married the love of her life Bruce Bates. They lived in Eagan, MN with their dog Gunner.
Tracy had a passion and love for family and entertaining... she loved to cook, paint, draw and loved her dog and cabin life. Tracy's greatest joy however was teaching kids how to figure skate. After all she was on skates at age 1.5 and skated her whole life earning a MN skating championship. She coached many kids state champions and national competitors.
Tracy is preceded in death by her loving father Roy A Scherer.
Tracy is survived by her loving husband Bruce Bates and loving family; mother, Janet Nelson, brother, Steven Scherer and wife Mary, niece Katelyn Lindgren and husband Andy and their daughter, Adrianna, nephew, Zachary Scherer and wife Maddi and their sons, Bennett and Kayden. And her extended family, the Bates, and of course her many friends who cherished her.
On Friday October 24, 2025 the Funeral and Celebration of Life will be held at Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Blvd East Wayzata, MN 55391; visitation will be from 10-11am funeral at 11am with lunch to follow.
Tracy will be laid to rest at a later date with her father Roy Scherer at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis.
