Travis Machado Obituary

Travis Lee Machado, born July 19, 1975, in Washington, DC, peacefully passed away on February 20, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

He is lovingly remembered by his parents Cathy and Steve Ely; his father Charles Machado; his siblings: Shannon DeWalt (Jody), Heidi Wright (Andy), Jeff Ely (Kathryn), and Tim Ely (Alyssa); and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Travis, a true free spirit was carefree, fun-loving, adventurous, deeply empathetic, and had a natural warmth allowing him to easily connect with others. He also had a special fondness for all children and animals. He lived life with a positive, go-with-the-flow attitude and embraced each day as a new opportunity to make others smile.

Travis enjoyed various seasonal work, appreciating the opportunities to learn, to meet people with interests different from his own, and to engage in experiences that were new to him. He especially found joy in being a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, a role that reflected his generous nature and love for spreading happiness.

Travis had a passion for all sports and the outdoors. He loved playing baseball, golf, hockey, tennis, basketball, and also enjoyed skiing, hunting, and skateboarding. The beach was one of his favorite places- a setting that matched his free-spirited soul and love for life. He spoke of how the surf reminded him of both the power of God and the peace that comes with His love. His affinity for Christian music was an expression of his deep faith and desire to praise God.

Travis' spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved him. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter, kindness, and an abiding appreciation for the beauty of God's creations.

A service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at Kempsville Christian Church at 5424 Parliament Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462 on March 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
