On May 5, 2022, Travis Ryan Otter passed away at the age of 32 in Waco, Texas. Travis was born September 15, 1989 in Houston.
Travis was sweet, stubborn, kind-hearted, charismatic, and intelligent. Travis had many good friends during his life. He loved his family and his friends deeply. He really enjoyed math and science. He was enrolled in the gifted and talented program at Westside High School in Houston, where he graduated with honors. During his high school years he played trombone and tuba in the high school band. He also really enjoyed playing ice hockey in the Houston high school league, particularly when he could play with his brother. He also enjoyed rock climbing at the local rock climbing gym and as much sky diving as he could afford. After high school Travis attended Texas A&M University, where he majored in Chemical Engineering.
Travis was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Doris Ebert and by his uncle Brent Otter. Travis is survived by his paternal grandparents, James and Anne Otter, his parents, Russell and Denise Otter, his brother Trevor and Trevor's wife Allie, all of his aunts and uncles, Jan Ebert, Karl Ebert, Kenny and Charlene Wehring, and Jim and Marion Poole, his cousins, Amanda Poole, James and Kathrine Poole, Sean and Jenn Poole and Spencer Wehring.
There are many people who helped guide and comfort Travis during his life. His family is particularly thankful to those that aided him after his motorcycle accident, when his life's journey became more difficult. In addition to his relatives who were there for him in so many ways, there were numerous people that showed kindness towards Travis during those troubled times. Of special note are: his high school and hockey friends, professors at TAMU, (a special thanks to Dr. Holtzapple), Kam Pelham-Polk, and especially Lorna Sommerfield. Lorna gave Travis lots of love, support and good advice starting when he was very little and through all of his difficult times.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday June 11, 2022, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM and services at 11:00 AM with reception lunch to follow at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Twin City Mission, twincitymission.org and email [email protected] after donation.

Travis took me on my first skydive, encouraged me to become a vegetarian, and introduced me to the music of Regina Spektor. I'm so grateful for those times. I will remember him as the most unique person, an effusive free spirit with a quirky and sharp sense of humor and always true to himself. Rest in peace, Travis.

Your friends and family are in my thoughts my friend. Glad that I got to know you as much as I did, wish it'd been more. Truly one of the most intelligent and humorous people I've ever met.

Travis was a good friend to my son Thomas, who played travel roller hockey with him and his brother a lifetime ago. Both boys spent time at my home and were two of the funniest, best behaved and delightful children around. Russell and Denise were dedicated parents and lovely people who stood by our family during difficult times. Our hearts are broken for them, Trevor and the family- we'll be keeping Travis in our circle of love and light in remembrance. Deb Bonario-Martin
