Charles Baker Obituary

Charles E. Baker M.D.
01/12/1933 - 02/02/2026
Dr. Charles Eugene Baker, formerly of Houston, Texas, passed away on February 2, 2026, at the age of 93. He was born January 12, 1933, in Baytown, Texas, the fifth child of Raleigh Washington and Addie Mae (Marquart) Baker. Charles was an honor student at Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas. Charles married the love of his life, Barbara Harlean Duplissey, on September 4, 1953, in Baytown.

Charles attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and was a member of the class of '55. He graduated from Baylor University College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, in 1957. Dr. Baker joined the U.S. Air Force and did a medical internship at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital before serving as a general medical officer and flight surgeon. After his military service, Charles and family returned to Texas where he became an orthopaedic resident at Hermann Hospital and Shriners' Hospital for Children. Thereafter, Charles enjoyed a 35 year orthopaedic surgery private medical practice in Houston. He retired in 2000 but returned to practice with Fondren Orthopedic Group for a couple of years. Dr. Baker also served for many years as the orthopaedic consultant for the Texas A&M football team and was the medical director and team physician for both the Houston Rockets and the Houston Aeros. Charles was an avid supporter of all Texas A&M sports. He was a proud fifth-generation Texan and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Republic of Texas.

Charles is survived by his wife of 72 years, Barbara Duplissey Baker; three children: Gregory (Laurie), Sharyn (Stephen Dwyer), and David (Guisella); eight grandchildren: Morgan (Banu), Laura (DJ Neace), Matthew (Cole Lienhart), Jacob Dwyer (Gabriella), Kevin Dwyer (Kaitlin), Kelly (Matthew Bierwagen), Dr. Andrea Baker, and Christina (Clayton Bellam); and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, and by a grandson, Jeffrey Dwyer.

A memorial service will be held in Dr. Baker's honor on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Christ Chapel (St. Martin's Episcopal Church), 717 Sage Road, Houston, Texas, at 11:00 a.m., with reception to follow.

Charles will be remembered and mourned with love and great respect by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many people he helped through his diligent medical care.
