Travis Henry Wilds, 43, of Marshall, NC, passed away on Monday, April 7th, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Travis was born on December 19, 1981 to Gradon and Ruth Wilds. He was a classically trained pianist and studied several martial arts. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army where he completed his AIT in Ft. Leonard, Missouri in 2006, becoming a Combat Engineer and member of the Army Corps of Engineers. In 2007 he was assigned to Ft. Campbell, KY where he served for 4.5 years as Combat Engineer for the Special Troops Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division/Air Assault. His specialties had him deployed overseas to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan to clear thousands of miles of roads from various explosives and IUD's. He was first injured in Baghdad when an explosive formed projectile (EFP) struck the vehicle he was operating. He didn't let that stop him from serving his country and he stayed on after recovering to then be shot in a firefight in Afghanistan in 2010. He retired from service in 2011 but his honorable service earned him the Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NATO Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Combat Action Badge, Meritorious Unit Commendation, two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, and two Purple Heart Medals for the injuries he received in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Travis is survived by his parents, Gradon and Ruth Wilds, his three children, Emerich, Gavin, and Jocelynn Wilds, brother, Jesse Wilds, sister, Kaitlyn Wilds Crowe, and two nieces, Jordon and Skyler Crowe.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Wilds section of the Lewis Cemetery. Reverend Raymond Cantrell will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted.
