Tressa Lawton Pearson, 82, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025.
Born on November 23, 1942, in New York City, NY, Tressa was the beloved daughter of Francis Asbury Lawton II and Mae Johnson Lawton. She graduated from Brenau University and went on to proudly teach 7th and 8th grade English and Social Studies, where in her 30's she retired from teaching to devote her life to being a full time mother to her precious daughter Anne.
Tressa shared 49 beautiful years of marriage with her loving husband, Thomas Deal Pearson. Together, they made their home in Charlotte.
Beyond the classroom, Tressa found joy in playing Bridge and Mah Jong, cooking-especially baking Christmas cookies-volunteering, and spending cherished time with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Her devotion to family was unwavering. A humble and generous woman, she never sought recognition for her many hours of volunteer service. Her greatest joy came from her family, and she took tremendous pride in her grandchildren.
Tressa is survived by her husband Thomas Deal Pearson, daughter Anne Pearson Hammett and husband Joel Stephen Hammett; her treasured grandchildren, Thomas Lawton Hammett and Mary Collins Hammett; her brother Francis Asbury "Tripp" Lawton III and wife Candler; nieces Rebecca "Bek" Turner and Anna Matuz; sister Beth Giacofci and husband Joseph Giacofci niece Ashley Fessler and nephew Matt Giacofci. Memorial contributions in Tressa's honor may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina or the National Kidney Foundation, supporting causes close to her heart.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
