Troy Lee Brown passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the age of 82 years. He was born on November 10th, 1941 in Adair County, Stilwell, Oklahoma. He was the fifth of fourteen children born to Harrison Taylor and Maudie Cherokee Brown.
At three years old, Troy moved to the Ryus Carbon Black Plant with his family and attended school in Satanta, Kansas. In 1960 Troy met the love of his life, Anita Ruth Giles and they married February 17th, 1962 in Garden City, Kansas. They started their married life in Satanta, Kansas. The young couple moved to Sublette where they raised their four sons.
Troy was employed by Haskell County Grain Company in Sublette for 38 years, serving as manager for 23 of those years. He enjoyed the farmers and got along well with everyone.
He enjoyed spending time with his family whom he loved very much. Troy really liked working in the yard, flower garden and vegetable garden as a past time. Even though his landscaping skills were just a hobby, his talent led to his yard to being used for weddings or as backdrops for photographers. He was always tinkering in his shop until wee hours of the morning, making things out of wood and metal. Troy could re-create almost anything from a simple look at a picture. He especially enjoyed, making silhouettes of cowboys, birdhouses, and squirrel feeders, to name a few. Often times he would have to make many of the same item so that there were enough to go around for their family.
Troy thrived on pulling pranks on everyone, especially with the mongoose. He didn't meet many strangers and always had a soft heart for those who were in need or less fortunate. Troy had a spoiled puppy dog, Bo, that he would take for a ride almost every day.
Troy came to know Christ later in life and developed a strong faith. After being baptized he often said he wished he would have done it forty years earlier.
He was such a good husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He was devoted to his wife, Anita, of 62 years, 5 months, and 12 days. He loved his children with all of his heart.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff Brown and wife Kathy of Billings, MT, Kelly Brown and wife Debbie of Sublette, KS, and Kendall Brown and wife Kari of Clay Center, KS; grandchildren, Tiana Brown and husband Justin of Barnsdall, OK, Travis Powell of Denver, CO, Leigh Taylor Holloway and husband Kennith of Hindsville, AR, Kaylea Brown of Terlton, OK, Malachi Trevino, Ezekiel Trevino, Genevieve Trevino, and Jonah Trevino of Clay Center, KS; great-grandchildren, Ryder Brown, Kynsli Brown, Joliene Brown, Kennedy Holloway, and Eleanor Holloway of Hindsville, AR; a brother, Roy G. Brown of Park Hill, OK; sisters, Myrtle Stages of Shamrock, TX, Opal King, Faye Buckner, and Haley Kay and husband Tracy of Stilwell, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Maudie Brown; his eldest son, Troy Don Brown; brothers, Joe Harvey Brown and William Brown; and sisters, Carline Salsman, Peggy Sullins, Margaret Ann Brown, Connie Smith, Linda Hothouse, and Mary Huggins.
