Troy D. Glidewell, Sr. passed away on March 9, 2011 in Coppell, Texas. Troy was born in Carrollton, Texas on March 22, 1931. He lived in Carrollton/Farmers Branch until he joined the Army at the age of 17. He served for four years, in Japan and Korea. He also became the first Fire Marshal of the city, as well as Building Official, and served temporarily as a Police Officer. Troy worked as an electronics and television repairman, and owned his own business Glidewell Electronics located on the old downtown square in Carrollton. He owned that business until the mid 1970's when he became a full time paid Fireman for the City of Coppell. He retired from the City in 1985. Troy was also a member of the VFW, as well as a ham radio operator.

Troy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia of Coppell; one son Troy Glidewell, Jr. of Coppell and his wife Christine; daughter Kathy Henson of Coppell and her husband Dean; daughter Linda Glidewell of Lewisville, Texas; daughter Carolyn Chittenden of Boyd, Texas; brother Robert Glidewell of Cartwright, Texas; sister Marie Eudy of Cartwright, Texas; ten grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed greatly by all of his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Rhoton's Funeral Home in Carrollton on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Viewing will be on Sunday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 PM.

The family would also like to thank Chief Kevin Richardson and the entire Coppell Fire Department for all of their support and assistance during his illness and with the funeral services of Chief Troy Glidewell. Dear Grandad,
you are the greatest man that I have ever known. You will always be my hero. The love that you showed me my entire life never had to be spoken because you showed it time and time again. I could never repay you for all that you did for me. I don't know what I am gonna do for the Cowboys games next season. I already miss you so much. I love you and thanks for everything.

Chief Glidewell,
Several things pop into my mind when I think about the time we worked together here at the fire department.....Your sincere interest in the members, your quick witted humor, drinking coffee at all hours of the day, and always cinching down my seatbelt when you were driving.

I will miss you

Chief Glidewell, I remember my first day on the job with the Coppell Fire Department.....You were the first person I met. You spent the day giving me a tour of the city and other orientation duties. But what I remember most from that day (besides learning to make coffee) was going home to my wife and telling her how great my first day on the job was. The impression you left that day has carried me for many years. Your sense of community spirit, dedication, and loyalty to the department is something I applied to my personal values. As Fire Chief, I continue to pass along those valuable lessons I learned from you to our new members. Thank you for making a difference in so many lives. Your legacy will continue within the Coppell Fire Department for many years to come. Thank you.
